News: #grhack becomes private

with 2 comments

A few minutes ago someone told me that the well known Greek security community of grhack became an “officially” private community. In my opinion this is a strange move but I cannot comment anything since I have no clue of the goals and motivation that lead to it, as well as any underlying stories being involved.

This community has contributed a lot to the security world from publishing content in e-zines such as phrack, to presenting in security industry conferences the past two years.

Also, since they turned to a private community I’ll remove my link to their website. It will be useless having a link to a private community. Finally, best wishes and good luck with your new community. :)

xorl and the army…

with 18 comments

Hello good fellows!

This post is just to inform you that it’s time for me to fulfil my military service.

Since some of you might not be aware, in Greece military service is mandatory for every male citizen. Even wikipedia has an entry for this!!1 (lol)

Because of this, I won’t be able to make new posts, moderate comments and answer emails for this sort period of time serving as a soldier.

Even though I have a few more days (about 10) as a free Greek citizen, I’ve decided that I won’t spend them on blogging :P

Of course, I’ll be updating my twitter when possible but I don’t think I’ll be able to write any new vulnerability analysis blog posts while being at the army.

Anyway, I won’t waste more of your time with my crap. Just have fun with anything you do, and as always… Happy coding!!!!

See you soon.

TCP Portals: The Handshake’s a Lie!

leave a comment »

A few days ago I came across this blog post by Tod Beardsley. Since there is no cool bug disclosed recently (which apparently, is a really good thing) to write about I’ll post this :P
It is indeed interesting behavior that most people (including myself) usually forget. As Tod Beardsley says in his post, there are a lot of potentials since some developers might have forgot it too. A few possibilities are remote detection, evasion of some IDS and/or IPS, or even firewalls etc.
Of course, all these are just ideas. None of them can be considered important unless somebody puts it in the test :)

Just to inform you as I said I’ll do in my previous post. The xorl.net domain which was donated to me by Ryan Lewon is redirecting to my blog from now on.
You can use it if you want. :)

xorl.net and xorl.wordpress.com

with 2 comments

The owner of xorl.net, Ryan Lewon (also known as xorl (not me, another xorl who had that handle before me)) decided to donate his domain name (xorl.net) to me since he moved to exitstate.org. He also suggested to point the A/CNAME records to this site but it seems like wordpress.com doesn’t offer such simple services for free.
So, I would like to publicly thank Ryan Lewon (aka xorl) for his kind donation. :)

P.S.: I’ll make another post when the xorl.net domain will be forwarding to this site.

SSH From Cell Phone?

with 2 comments

Here are a few nice little ready-to-use applications that implement SSH clients for some popular cell phones:

TuSSH
This is written in C and it works with PalmOS and SonyOS

MidpSSH
This application is written in Java (J2ME using MIDP 1.0/2.0) and it works with any Java enabled cell phone. It also includes a telnet client.

S2PuTTY
This is a port of the popular PuTTY client for SymbianOS.

Pretty useful applications :)

Due to fail in time management I don’t think I will be able to continue the blog. So, at least for now (whatever this might mean), this blog can be considered as dead. I apologise for the comments that remained un-moderated/not-approved for like a week and the unaswered emails. Have fun with whatever you do and as always Happy Coding!!!
Here are two neat attachments…

har2009 stuff:
@DrWhax: Dude I’m really sorry for not meeting you at the 2600nl village. I saw a guy that should be you since he was wearing a t-shirt that had that name written in the back. Maybe we’ll meet in another place some time. :)

@ret: Man… I logged in to EFNet at least 2 times when I was at har to find you and you were not there. Too bad, I really wanted to meet you in real life. :)

Thanks to mumpi of phonoelit for the awesome parties and FX for being such a cool (and drunk?) guy!!! Also, cccp you rock man (we had some fun time even though you didn’t know that I was xorl)!!! xD

I will be occasionally checking the comments and emails but please, don’t get angry if this isn’t really often.
