Knife: KA-BAR Model #2781

As some of you might already know one of my hobbies is knives. So, with this post I’m introducing a new category where I will be discussing the characteristics and my personal opinion for some of the knives I have. For this reason I decided start this new category with a small pocket knife I used a lot in the past. The KA-BAR model #2781. Let’s see…

So… First of all, this knife is no longer produced (stopped in 2006) but you can still find it in many stores available for a really low price. I got mine long time ago (I cannot recall how many years) since it was a cheap knife for everyday use. A reason behind its cheap price was that it was manufactured in China as a low end KA-BAR model which was available from “KA-BAR International”.

Model: #2781
Manufacturer: KA-BAR International
Country Manufactured: China
Type: Pocket Knife
Price: €10-20
Blade Length: 7.0cm (2.8 inches)
Total Length (open): 17.0cm (6.7 inches)
Total Length (closed): 10.0cm (3.9 inches)
Blade Material: 420J2 Stainless Steel
Handle Material: Plastic
Lock: Side Liner Lock
Weight: 54.0g (0.12 lbs)

As you can see, it also features a partially serrated blade which however isn’t that useful for this kind of pocket knife. Another nice feature you can see from the above photograph is the thumb stud that makes it very easy to open using one hand.

On this side it has a belt clip which is not removable but it is great and hasn’t lossen up even after years of use. Below you can see a close up on its locking system…

It’s a classic side liner lock system which is realiable, simple and can also be used with one hand.

So… To conclude, KA-BAR model #2781 is a lightweight, cheap and reliable pocket knife. I’m finding it perfect for everyday use but you should not expect anything of really high quality on such a low price.
