Concerning the article about the universal language and how it would be used for possible communication with alien intelligence, I would also recommend this really enlightening paper by Marvin Minsky, who is an authoritative figure at cognitive science: http://web.media.mit.edu/~minsky/papers/AlienIntelligence.html

    This was a really nice article even though it was written on 1985 and nowadays most of its content can be found on hundreds of references. While reading it I was thinking about the evolution we’ve made on this field since 1977 when Voyager launched with the famous Voyager Golden Record in it. Maybe we’re getting closer and closer to successful communication with extraterrestrial life. (let’s hope so) :)
